Iran said on Thursday that it is ready to export crude oil to Mongolia through China.
Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh said his ministry can satisfy Mongolia’s needs for crude oil which he said currently stands at maximum 60,000 barrels per day (bpd).
Zangeneh said Ulaanbaatar needs to arrive at an agreement with Beijing over the deliveries of Iranian oil to the country that he said should be made by Chinese companies.
He made the comments in a meeting with the visiting Mongolian Foreign Minister Lundeg Purevsuren, IRNA reported. Both discussed the ways to promote energy relations between the two countries.
Zangeneh said Iran is ready to train Mongolia’s oil industry workforce.
Purevsuren, in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad-Javad Zarif on Wednesday, had called on Iran to develop joint ventures with Mongolia in oil projects.
"We produce and export one million barrels of crude everyday and since Iran is a pioneer in this field, it can take part in oil drilling and extraction projects in Mongolia," Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted Purevsuren as saying.
The Mongolian foreign minister reiterated that his country is interested to broaden economic ties with Iran, and said, "Mongolia gives Iran the access to regional markets."
In August, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Mongolia's Non-Resident Ambassador to Tehran Dambin Yam announced Tehran's preparedness to cooperate with Ulaanbaatar in developing Mongolia's energy, road-construction and mining projects.
"Iranian companies are ready for partnership in Mongolia's energy, road-building and mining sectors," Rouhani said.
He also referred to the cultural commonalities and age-old relations between the two countries, and voiced Tehran's preparedness to further develop cooperation with Ulaanbaatar in cultural and scientific fields.
