Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has defeated independent Senator Bernie Sanders in the Missouri Democratic primary, winning all five states that voted March 15.
The Associated Press called the race for Clinton on Thursday evening, two days after voters went to the polls in Missouri.
Clinton scored decisive victories in Florida, Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina on Tuesday, but the result from the Missouri primary had been too close to project.
Clinton's victory in Missouri gives her a significant boost as she is inching towards winning the Democratic nomination.
Sanders conceded defeat on Thursday and said he will not request a recount.
"I prefer to save the taxpayers of Missouri some money,” he told AP.
According to vote data, Clinton gained 50 percent of the vote to Sanders' 49 percent.
With the victory in Missouri, Clinton has now won 18 contests during the Democratic primary season.
The former secretary of state has been awarded 44 of the 84 total delegates, while the Vermont senator has received 32.
In her victory speech on Tuesday night, Clinton congratulated Sanders for continuing to wage what she called a “vigorous campaign.”
Meanwhile, the Missouri Republican primary has yet to be called. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz each have 41 percent of the vote, with the New York billionaire leading the Texas senator only by 0.2 percent. The two contenders are separated by about 1,700 votes.
