Thousands of protesters gathered at Girona's Placa del Vi demanding that Madrid free detained Catalan leaders on Friday.

Former MPs Benet Salellas, Magda Casamitjana and Camil Ros called on those who attended "to not be afraid" amid a sea of Estedella flags and raised fists.

Protesters are demanding the release of Jordi Sanchez and Jordi Cuixart who are currently facing trial at the National Court in Madrid.
