Russia’s St. Petersburg on Saturday night staged a spectacular light show

Russia’s St. Petersburg on Saturday night staged a spectacular light show, which was projected onto the Winter Palace, illuminating the architecture with imaginative 3D graphics, lighting and soundtrack.

Using projection mapping technology, the city's largest and most elaborate light show so far featured a 13-minute video depicting the most significant events and key figures throughout the modern and contemporary history of Russia, as well as the country's landmark buildings.

With various colorful images dancing over the facade, the Winter Palace completely transformed when its arches and brickwork morphed and burst into life in an explosion of color, texture and sound to the amazement of onlookers, who were taken over when some areas appeared to crumble away, and even a ship broke through the wall and sailed towards them.
