Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte visited the site of the Roman Catholic cathedral on the island of Mindanao on Monday where suspected militants set off bombs that killed 20 people and wounded over 100 a day earlier.

The attack has been claimed by Daesh, while police are also reportedly investigating whether militants of the Daesh-aligned Abu Sayyad group may have carried out the bombing.

Duterte inspected the damage to the interior of the bombed Jolo Catholic Cathedral and reportedly ordered Philippines armed forces to defeat Abu Sayyad, whose militants have carried out bombings, kidnappings and beheadings over the past few years.

After visiting the place of worship, Duterte met with families of the victims at a camp in Jolo.
