Time running out on Iran nuclear deal
Iran is expected to take new steps to reduce its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action also known as the Iran nuclear deal or the JCPOA.
On Tuesday, Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said this will happen on July 7th. The countrys Atomic Energy Organization said it could exceed the uranium stockpile limit set under the JCPOA.
The organizations spokesman said the measure is in line with Articles 26 and 36 of the Iran Nuclear Deal and will therefore be reversed if other signatories commit to their side of the agreement.
On May 8th, Iran gave the other parties two months to live up to their commitments. The date coincided with the passing of one year since US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the UN-backed agreement and re-imposed sanctions on Tehran.
