An exhibition called "Beyond the Columns of Media" opened at the Museum of Classical Art based in Rome's La Sapienza University.

The initiative, sponsored by the Italian Ambassador to Teheran Giuseppe Perrone, is the result of collaboration between the Italian Archaeological Mission in Iran and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran's ambassador Hamid Bayat and La Sapienza University rector Antonella Polimeni were among the attendees of the event. The exhibit features 16 panels put together by Italian students, representing an ideal journey through the great ancient trade route and communication network known as the "Silk Road".

Panels portrait the historical region of the Media, between the Mesopotamian Plain and the Iranian Plateau. The exhibition itinerary follows a diachronic development that starts from the Iron Age through to the dynasties of Achaemenids, Arsacids and Sassanids.

Italy and Iran have long-standing connections that go back in history and have resulted in a deep understanding between the two countries. Their political and cultural relations date back to the time of the Roman and Persian empires and are marked by important affinities.

Due to the COVID pandemic most academic activities have been carried out remotely, via video conference. All attendees wished for a prompt return to pre-COVID ways of working.
