The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits continued to surge at unprecedented levels. Just last week, another 885-thousand people filed for first-time unemployment. This is the highest level in the past three months.

Since the start of the pandemic, more people lost their jobs and incomes and became dependent on assistance. Over all about 20.65 million people are receiving unemployment benefits of some kind since the coronavirus pandemic started in the US.
