The United Arab Emirates is a desert land mushroomed with towering skyscrapers. These glitzing structures have become the symbol of affluence and modernity Abu Dhabi is most proud of.
But beneath these giant skyscrapers, on the ground, the reality is quite different. The coronavirus pandemic has thrown into sharp relief some ugly features of this dazzling desert. Abandoned by the government and their employers, many blue collar migrant workers are now sleeping rough on the streets of one the richest countries in the world.
