Since the US unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, the accord has faced a deadlock with Washington imposing the “toughest ever sanctions” on Iran and European signatories failing to fulfill their commitments under the deal.

However, the European Union foreign policy chief, Joseph Borrell, says he will do “everything possible” to save the deal, stressing that its full implementation can become a “stepping-stone” towards addressing other shared concerns, including regional security.
