It was an utter shock for the destitute Rohingya community in India after the country’s Supreme Court rejected the petition seeking halt on the deportation process.

The court in its ruling said the deportation process could go ahead as long as the government follows due process. Now more panic has gripped the community as their last hope seems lost.

Experts say the Supreme Court ruling will give a sense of relief to the community for a while. They however believe the ruling doesn't stop the detention process; rather it gives the government more freedom to act swiftly. In other words the fate of the community hangs in balance.

Rights groups have urged India to halt any deportation plan as conditions in Myanmar are not conducive, calling on the Indian government to uphold its international obligations and protect those in need of refuge within its borders.
