Barcelona have suffered a shock 1-0 defeat by Rayo Vallecano to allow Real Madrid take a step closer to winning their 35th La Liga title.

Rayo silenced the crowd at Camp Nou after 7 minutes when Alvaro Garcia received a pass in the box and fired it past Marc Andre Ter-Stegen. Barcelona had a number of first-half chances with Jordi Alba and Gavi both rattling the wood work. Barca’s push continued after the break with Memphis Depay and Adama Traore testing Rayo keeper while Ousmane Dembele’s late shot was cleared off the goal line as the visitors held on for the win. The result means Real Madrid now need only a single point from their last five games to secure the title.
