The Palestinian flag has been raised at the Oslo City Hall in solidarity with the people in Gaza to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

"When we know that more than 5,000 children have lost their lives, it is only natural to remember them today," the mayor of the Norwegian capital Anne Lindboe tells AFP.

Fighting began on October 7 when Hamas launched an attack into the occupied territories, killing 1,200 people, and kidnapping about 240, according to Israeli officials. Israel's subsequent air and ground campaign in Gaza has killed 15,000 people, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, and reduced large parts of the north of the territory to rubble.
