The UN humanitarian coordinator for Gaza says Israel’s war on the territory has unleashed a maelstrom of human misery, with 1.9 million people now displaced across the narrow populated territory.

Sigrid Kaag told the UN Security Council on Tuesday that more than 1 million people are “desperately seeking shelter and safety” in Gaza.

She said that “1.9 million people are now displaced across Gaza.”

“Their homes life shattered, their lives upended. The war has not merely created the most profound of humanitarian crises. It has unleashed a maelstrom of human misery.”

Kaag said she was deeply concerned” by reports of Israel’s new evacuation orders for Khan Yunis.

Hundreds of people were fleeing Khan Younis in southern Gaza after the regime’s military once again bombarded the largely ruined city and ordered a mass evacuation of residents on Monday..

The UN says 250,000 Palestinians in southern Gaza have been affected by the orders.

People leaving the city say they don’t know where to go as they keep being displaced from one place to another.

The new bombardment and evacuation have sparked fear that the military could launch a new ground assault on Khan Younis.

International aid agencies have repeatedly warned that there is no safe place to take refuge in Gaza any more.
