Iran-China ties anchored in common interests, mutual respect: Mokhber
Iran’s Interim President Mohammad Mokhber says relations between the Islamic Republic and China are built on the principles of common interests and mutual respect.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Kazakh capital of Astana on Thursday on the sidelines of the 24th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Mokhber extended his gratitude to the Chinese government and nation for expressing sympathy and solidarity with Iran following the passing of President Ebrahim Raeisi in the helicopter crash of May 19 along with his companions in Iran’s northwestern province of East Azarbaijan.
“The relations between Iran and China are strategic and based on mutual interests and respect. They are deepening and developing,” Mokhber stated.
He underscored that Iranian and Chinese officials are determined to further expand mutual cooperation in economic, commercial and energy spheres.
Xi, for his part, once again offered his condolences over the passing of President Raeisi and his companions, calling on Mokhber to convey his commiserations to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Xi said the relations between Beijing and Tehran were strategic, emphasizing that China’s policy to enhance relations with the Islamic Republic is not influenced by external factors.
The Chinese president also underlined that his country wants the development, progress and welfare of the Iranian nation.
