Syria crisis

Syria militants have announced the capture of Damascus and the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad. The militants made the announcement in a brief statement on state television. They said all people imprisoned by the former government have been released. Assad has reportedly flown out of Damascus for an unknown destination. In an interview, Syria’s prime minister said that he has had contact with militant commander Abu Mohammed al-Jolani about how to manage the current period. Muhammad Al Jalali said the country should hold free elections so the Syrian people can choose who they want to lead the country. He said he is open to cooperation with any leadership chosen by the people. Jolani had ordered his forces not to approach official institutions in Damascus. However, pictures show the Iranian embassy in Damascus has been ransacked. Armed groups opposed to the Syrian government launched an offensive in late November and rapidly took control of major cities such as Aleppo, Hama and Homs.

Israel's Syria incursion

Israeli troops have reportedly entered Syrian territory amid advances by armed opposition groups into Syria’s capital, Damascus. According to media reports, the Israeli tanks entered the Syrian town of Quneitra in the Golan Heights. This comes a day after the regime’s military sent reinforcements into the occupied part of the Golan Heights. The Israeli army claims its troops were assisting UN peacekeepers in repelling an attack by armed groups. Back in October, the regime’s military carried out several incursions into the same region in Syria. Over the past months, Israel has stepped up attacks across Syria in violation of international law and the Arab country’s sovereignty.

US-Israeli Gaza genocide

More Palestinian civilians are killed as the Israeli military continues to pound the blockaded territory with more attacks. In one of the latest strikes, at least five people were killed after Israeli warplanes bombed tents of displaced Palestinians in the al-Masha’la area, near Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. Israeli jets also bombed a residential neighborhood in Gaza city’s Shawa neighborhood, killing at least three people and injuring several others. Meanwhile, the Israeli artillery shelled a number of areas across Gaza, leaving an unknown number of people dead and injured. More than 44,600 Palestinians have so far been killed and nearly 106,000 others injured since the regime’s onslaught began in October last year.
