Indonesia has dismissed reports of a plan for the relocation of the people of Gaza to the country.

Roy Soemirat, a spokesperson for Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Tuesday that Jakarta “firmly denies” such reports.

"The Indonesian government has never received any information regarding this."

The Indonesian government also rejects any speculation on the matter without concrete information, he said.

Efforts to relocate Gaza residents would only sustain Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories, he added.

“Indonesia remains steadfast in its position that any attempt to relocate Gaza residents is unacceptable.”

“Indonesia has maintained its commitment to support Palestinian recovery through humanitarian aid and diplomatic efforts.” Jakarta is committed to the “Palestinian sovereignty” and “territorial rights.”

The idea of a so-called “voluntary migration” of the people of Gaza was first promoted during the Biden administration by far-right Israeli ministers.

However, the idea was firmly rejected by the international community, especially the Arab countries that advocated the Palestinians’ territorial rights.

Donald Trump's transition team, led by his West Asia envoy Steve Witkoff, is reconsidering the plan for relocating the Gaza residents to another country. Witkoff said that Indonesia is one of the countries being considered for the plan.

Critics believe any plan for relocating refugees will give the Israeli regime the excuse it needs to forcibly expel Palestinians from Gaza, and repopulate the territory with Israeli settlers.

Palestinian resistance groups led by Hams reached a ceasefire agreement with the Israeli regime on January 15.
