Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sattar Hashemi has expressed Iran’s readiness to share its scientific and technical expertise with Saudi Arabia.
Hashemi made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting in the Iranian capital with Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Tehran Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi.
He outlined different areas for Iran-Saudi cooperation, especially in ICT, underlining the need for developing relations between the two countries.
Cooperation in data transfer is the most important issue that Tehran and Riyadh can put on their agenda, he added.
Hashemi also noted that developing communication infrastructure, ensuring cybersecurity, and advancing e-government services are among other potential areas for cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the Saudi kingdom.
He further said Iran stands ready to share its scientific and technical expertise with Saudi Arabia and exchange ICT delegations and experts.
The Saudi ambassador, for his part, emphasized the importance of expanding ties with Iran in multiple sectors, saying his country is prepared for efforts to that aim.
Iran and Saudi Arabia resumed relations following a seven-year hiatus under a China-brokered deal in March 2023, which saw the two sides re-open diplomatic missions.
The two countries agreed to implement a security cooperation agreement signed in April 2001 and another accord reached in May 1998 to boost economic, commercial, investment, technical, scientific, cultural, sports, and youth affairs cooperation.
