James Jatras, a former US Senate foreign policy analyst from Washington D.C., has talked to Press TV about a ceasefire deal recently struck between the Ukrainian government and the pro-Russia forces to end the crisis in eastern Ukraine.

The political commentator says the administration of US President Barack Obama and several hard-line Republican leaders would attempt to torpedo the fragile truce by equipping the Ukrainian army with lethal weapons.

Jatras explains that such actions by the United States could escalate the situation and turn the conflict into to a broader confrontation between Washington and Moscow.
