Heavy rains near the Bolivian-Argentine border caused severe flooding on Wednesday. The downpour has spread across seven Bolivian departments.
Homes collapsed as floodwaters raged from record precipitation in the southern border city of Yacuiba with 7.6 inches (194 millimeters), according to media reports.
Affected residents wade through the flood zone in the southern Bolivian department of Potosi as they tried to save their animals and belongings.
According to the local Civil Defense, some 120,000 residents have been affected. At least 40 families have lost their homes. Local officials are seeking rebuilding assistance from the national government.
