Qatar Open: Bautista Agut beats Rublev, reaches final

Roberto Bautista Agut has brushed aside Andrey Rublev with a straight-sets victory to reach the Qatar Open Final.

The Spaniard got off to a great start against last week’s Rotterdam Open champion, racing to a 6-3 win in the opener and carried the momentum into the second by breaking the Russian in the very first game.

However, Rublev broke back immediately, but failed to win another game once he took a 3-2 lead as Bautista Agut wrapped up another 6-3 win to set up a showdown against Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia.

Basilashvili himself outlasted Taylor Fritz of the USA 7-6 and 6-1 in the other semifinal encounter.

It took the 29-year-old Georgian 75 minutes to book his place in the finale. He trails Bautista Agut 3-1 in their ATP head to head series, but Basilashvili looks quite capable of beating the Spaniard this time around after upsetting Roger Federer in the previous round.
