Iran presidential vote

Iran’s presidential race heads to run-off as no candidate secures majority or reaches a 50-percent threshold required for an outright victory.  Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi announced the end of the vote counting. Two front-runners, Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili will face off on July the 5th. Pezeshkian managed to secure over 10.4 million votes in the first round. Saeed Jalili garnered 9.5 million of the votes. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Mostafa Pourmohammadi came third and fourth with 13 percent and 0.8 percent of the ballots, respectively. According to the interior ministry, 40 percent of eligible voters or over 24 and a half million Iranians participated in the election on Friday.

US-Israeli genocide

Nearly nine months into Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, the regime continues to pound the blockaded Palestinian territory relentlessly. In one of the strikes, at least four Palestinians were killed and several others injured after Israeli warplanes targeted a car in Gaza City’s al-Sabra neighborhood. Two separate airstrikes in the center of Gaza City hit residential areas, resulting in death and injury of several Palestinians, including children. The regime is also targeting other Palestinian neighborhoods across Gaza with artillery, leaving an unknown number of casualties. The Israeli aggression against Gaza began in early last October. Since then, more than 37,700 Palestinians have been killed and over 86,000 injured.
