Pezeshkian: Iran determined to develop, boost ties with neighbors

Before boarding the plane to Tajikistan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian waves to the crowd bidding him farewell, at Mehrabad International Airport, Tehran, Iran, on January 15, 2025.

President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran is determined to pursue the development and strengthening of relations with its neighbors.

The president was heading to the Tajik capital of Dushanbe on Wednesday at the official invitation of his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

“The development and strengthening of relations with neighboring countries is one of the priorities of the 14th government, based on the vision outlined by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei,” the Iranian president said at Mehrabad International Airport.

That matter, Pezeshkian stated, is being pursued with determination by his administration.

Pezeshkian added that during his visit to Tajikistan, “with which we share a common language and history,” joint cooperation agreements will be signed in the fields of water, agriculture, science, culture, industry, trade, transportation, and mining.

“We aim to deepen our relations with this country,” the Iranian president said, emphasizing that his upcoming visit to Russia, his next destination, would also be made at the official invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Alireza Haghighian, scheduled plans for this visit include a joint business, investment, and tourism conference with the participation of over 300 Iranian and Tajik economic activists and investors, aimed at enhancing economic and trade cooperation and exchanges.

“The reopening of the Persian Language and Literature Research Institute is another side event of Pezeshkian’s visit. Additionally, the president’s meeting with Iranians residing in Tajikistan is another part of the agenda,” Haghighian added.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, and Finance Minister Abdolnasser Hemmati, among other ministers, will accompany Pezeshkian on his visit to the two countries of Tajikistan and Russia.
