Palestinian rescue workers have recovered more bodies from the rubble across the besieged Gaza Strip, as Israeli forces continue to violate the ceasefire agreement with Hamas resistance group.

Rescue and civil defense teams said Thursday they recovered at least 137 bodies from under the rubble across the blockaded territory in the past 24 hours.

The health ministry in Gaza said  hospitals had received 122 bodies, including 120 that “were recovered from under the rubble.”

The ministry reiterated its appeal to Gazans to submit information about dead or missing people to help update its records.

Thousands of Palestinians are still trapped under rubble. Palestinian journalists have shared videos on social media platforms showing survivors in Gaza trying to find their relatives among the bodies wrapped in white shrouds.

The death toll from Israel's war on Gaza has reached about 47,300 with numbers rising despite a ceasefire as new bodies are being found under the rubble on a daily basis.

Israeli forces, meanwhile, continue to violate the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, launching fresh attacks across the besieged area.

In the most recent Israeli aggression, at least two Palestinians were killed by Israeli tank fire in the Tal as-Sultan neighborhood of Rafah.

A quadcopter attack targeted civilians in the al-Shaboura refugee camp near Rafah, resulting in one death and several injuries.

There were reports of heavy fire from Israeli tanks near the Karem Abu Salem crossing in southern city of Rafah. The crossing is crucial for aid delivery into the besieged Gaza Strip.

Israeli naval boats also fired on beaches in northern and southern Gaza.

Ex-Israeli army chief: Netanyahu seeks to prolong war

Former army chief Moshe Ya’alon lambasted Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling coalition, saying it is not working in good faith to free captives.

Ya’alon said said the regime is acting against the Israeli entity’s interest by trying to prolong the war on Gaza.

It "wants the war to continue until the end of its term, which goes against Israeli interests,” he told Israel’s Army Radio. “It is not acting sincerely to free the captives. We could have released them in November 2023.”

Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s far-right former minister who resigned in protest over the ceasefire agreement, took to X, calling the truce a "reckless surrender" and a "humiliation."

He insisted that Israel must abandon this approach and resume military action to "destroy" Gaza.

Ben-Gvir also condemned reports that the military instructed soldiers to remove offensive graffiti in Gaza, labelling it a "disgrace".

Ben-Gvir and some other ministers have already resigned from Netanyahu’s ruling coalition over the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Israel's finance minister Bezalel Smotrich also recently threatened to bring down Netanyahu’s coalition if the besieged Gaza Strip is not occupied.

Director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital said Israeli authorities had extended a ban on Dr. Hussam Abu Safia from meeting his lawyers until February 6.

'Over 38,000 Palestinian children orphaned by Israeli war'

More than 38,000 Palestinian children have been orphaned by Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, a health ministry official said on Thursday.

Zaher al-Wahidi said that some 32,151 children lost their fathers, 4,417 lost their mothers, and 1,918 lost both parents.

“At least 13,901 women were also widowed by the war,” the official said.

“These figures reflect the extent of the pain that the people of Gaza have suffered, which requires everyone to work urgently to alleviate the suffering of orphans and affected families and rebuild their lives,” he added.

Israel’s 15-month war in Gaza displaced nearly all of its 2.3 million inhabitants, forcing many to live in meagre conditions in tents as bombs rained down.

The al-Awda Hospital in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza said Thursday that Israel carried out 520 attacks on hospitals in Gaza during the 15-month war.

More than 100 ambulance teams were targeted, 2,260 medical staff arrested, and six workers at the hospital were killed during the Israeli military’s siege of the facility.

The health system in the Palestinian territory was largely destroyed by more than 15 months of Israeli campaign of death and destruction.

The director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital said Thursday Israeli authorities had again extended a ban on Dr. Hussam Abu Safia from meeting his lawyers until February 6.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya was abducted on December 27, 2024 when Israeli forces stormed the bombed-out hospital. All medical staff, patients and their relatives were taken out at gunpoint and transferred to an unknown location.

The last photo of Abu Safiya showed him walking alone towards a row of Israeli tanks that had amassed outside the facility.

Abu Safiya is understood to be held in the Sde Teiman military prison, notorious for torture.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on Israel to release the well-known director in the besieged Gaza Strip. The UN agency says it has received no updates on his safety since.
