Iran’s foreign minister attends a special meeting of a parliamentary committee tasked with reviewing the nuclear conclusion reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries. During the session which lasted for several hours, Mohammad Javad Zarif answered questions raised by the lawmakers regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or the JCPOA reached in Vienna back in July. Deputy foreign ministers Abbas Araqchi, Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and Hassan Qashqavi were also present in the session. Zarif: Obama's anti-Iran remarks meant to please domestic critics, Israel
Iran’s foreign minister says US President Barack Obama’s latest remarks against the Islamic Republic were aimed at pleasing Israel as well as critics inside the US. Mohammad Javad Zarif said Obama’s comment that the July nuclear deal stopped Iran from attaining nuclear weapons was pointless because Tehran has never been and will NOT be after nukes. The top Iranian diplomat also referred to the situation in the Middle East. He said the uncalculated policies and measures by the US and its allies, particularly Israel, have resulted in the rise of terrorism and extremism in the region. Zarif noted that promoting peace and security tops Iran’s foreign policy agenda which he described as consistent, unlike double-standard policies of certain states. The reaction came after a Wednesday speech by Obama in which he accused Iran of supporting terrorism, saying Washington has many differences with Tehran despite the recent nuclear agreement.
