The United States is seeking a change of government in Iran to achieve its goals, says a commentator.

The US and its regional allies like Saudi Arabia and Israel are interested in “a coup or a change of leadership in Iran, what they would love to call regime change,” political commentator and author John Steppling told Press TV on Monday.

“It (the change of government policy) hasn’t worked in Syria and I doubt it would work in Iran right now, but this is the plan” and US President Donald Trump has brought in the most hard-line anti-Iranian officials like Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to pursue the policy, Steppling underlined.

The author also warned about any potential negotiations with the current US administration, saying that “speaking to Washington right now is a lose-lose situation."
